MISSION STATEMENT

Musée Magazine is a dynamic, print and digital biennial, and interactive website dedicated to featuring works by emerging and established artists. Sometimes quirky, sometimes sensual, always unpredictable, Musée moves on the cutting edge as an unparalleled photo-based platform. Today, Musée finds itself at the vanguard of photography and film culture. We strive to empower promising artists as they navigate and launch future careers throughout the global photographic community, while commingling with industry influencers to provide relevant content for academics, students, and photography aficionados alike. Like a photographic library, Musée has a broad appeal, encompassing all genres from the photo-world’s beloved masters to the new, exciting, and unexpected.

FOUNDER & EDITOR IN CHIEF

Editor-in-Chief, Andrea Blanch

Andrea Blanch is a New York-based award-winning fashion, fine art and conceptual photographer. She began her photographic career under the tutelage of Richard Avedon, with her first client being American Vogue. Blanch is referred to as "the woman who knows how to capture a woman." Her work has been published in Details, G.Q., the French, English, American, German, Australian and Italian issues of Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar, The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, Marie Claire and Rolling Stone. Blanch has had one woman shows, been featured in group exhibitions and books, as well as private collections.

Musée Magazine began for Blanch as a flash of inspiration. She sought to create a magazine which gives exposure to up-and-coming photographers alongside the industry’s most prestigious figures. Musée strives to act as a guide and mentor for emerging photographers, as well as expose our audience to insightful and in-depth interviews with the most important artists of the contemporary photographic world. Since then Musée has grown into an expansive online resource with an ever-growing archive of issues that engages with gallerists, curators, collectors, and photographers alike.

In addition to Musée Magazine, Blanch currently teaches at the International Center for Photography and is a member of APA. Her photobook, Italian Men: Love and Sex, was published with Rizzoli in 1999.

CREATIVE DIRECTORS

Creative Director, Sam Shahid

Sam Shahid has been leaving his mark on the world of fashion and advertising for four decades and counting. When he became the creative director for the in-house advertising agency for Calvin Klein in the early 1980s, he helped to turn the brand into the internationally recognized name it remains today with advertising campaigns that are remembered for their clean yet sensational visuals. In the early 1990s he did the same for Banana Republic, before opening up his own creative design firm and advertising agency Shahid & Company (now Shahid / Kraus & Company) in 1993, and through the following years he’s used this platform to create original and striking campaigns for brands as divergent as Versace and Perry Ellis, Gucci and Valentino, and his continued indelible work with Abercrombie & Fitch still inspires today. Throughout the Aughts he was also the Creative Director of Interview Magazine, and on top of all these accomplishments he’s also designed a library’s worth of fine art books for artists and photographers such as Bruce Weber, Kelly Klein, Herb Ritts, and Ellen Von Un Werth amongst others.

Creative Director, Matthew Kraus

From photography, typography, art book design, and film to branding for both new and existing brands—Matthew Kraus is passionate about everything creative. 20+ years ago he was fortunate to start at one of New York’s top boutique agencies, Shahid & Company (now Shahid / Kraus & Company), and to serve as art director and lead designer for diverse clients such as Interview Magazine, Abercrombie & Fitch, David Yurman, Versace and more. He has also art directed and designed a full bookshelf of books for Rizzoli, powerHouse Books, Steidl, Bruce Weber, Jessica Lange, Collier Schorr, Joel Grey, the Guggenheim Museum, and many others.
