Weekend Portfolio: Alice Sossella

Alice Sossella grew up in a little town on the hills of Italy and she currently lives in Milano. At first, Alice studied Economics but after six years in the marketing department, she decided to change everything and now works at a consulting agency dedicated to the arts and photography. She never studied photography academically but has been photographing for ten years.

Somewhere Else is an ongoing process that crosses two main roads. On one side, it investigates the place, outlining a dreamlike geography. On the other, it investigates the subject and its capacity for abstraction.

The first road is a labyrinth of imagined fragments, where the walking influences the gaze and the gaze defines the path, but there is no turning back or moving forward.

It’s a never-ending rummaging of meaningless things, passing from anxiety to silent unconsciousness. The subjects are all there, but lost in thought. Taken from behind and motionless. Perhaps they are contemplating escape, hoping for something greater in their next lifetime.

The escape and the return, in a endless circle, are the main roads to this project. It is a continuous contradiction between nostalgia and the desire to be somewhere else, far from all the noise.
