Olga Karlovac: Reflections
Words and Images by Olga Karlovac
How did you develop this series?
It is part of my self portraits in the mirror series combined with several landscape/street images I felt belong well together.
What challenges came up during this project?
Few challenges, but not many. Maybe to combine all of it together and to make it work as a sequence, the core idea was to make the self portraits in the mirror, playing with movement, long exposures , water drops and light, I just kept coming back to it for quite a long time.
Describe your creative process in one word?
Intuitive.
What inspires you to pursue image-making?
Something within myself that simply urges me to make the images, sense of freedom and expression I get, I feel being part of a my world and a lot of imagination while shooting.
What was the last book you read or film you saw that inspired you?
It has been a while as lately it has been crazy trying to publish the new book, and while doing so i neglected both, usually i read a lot while i shoot and create, later in the process of putting the book together, it gets neglected sometimes, one book i have started and still in process of reading is murakami's book killing commendatory.
What advice would you give to people just starting out in photography?
To take time and have confidence to do the things their own way.
What is your favorite thing (podcast, album, audio book...etc.) to listen to?
Good question, usually it would be some good old music album, just playing in the background while I do my stuff on laptop.
How do you take your coffee?
Italian espresso with a little bit of cold milk, always first thing in the morning :)
