Michelle Stuart’s solo exhibition, “Silent Movies”, creates a visual space for the viewer to wander and contemplate. Acting as a director, she activates and visualizes intangible memories through re-contextualizing appropriated vintage images and her own photographs in groups.

The variable narratives produced by the interactions among images resonate with personal memories of the audience. The theme of each work varies, ranging from historical events to nature and cosmos. The photographs within the black frames and the white space among these images contain rhythms that can stimulate the memories deep inside the soul. Moreover, Stuart’s work makes the viewer experience and pay attention to the very process of recollection itself.
