MUSÉE 29 – EVOLUTION

Evolution explores the concepts of progress, transformation, growth, and advancement in an age when images are taking a dramatic shift in the role they play in our lives.

Adam Prieto is a filmmaker and photographer based in the SF Bay Area. In 2014 he traded everything he had for a little cave nestled deep in the Sierra mountains near Yosemite Valley. There, he adopted a love for simplicity, space and storytelling. With less things in our lives we create room for creativity - for mystery and ingenuity.

In all honesty, during the time I had a major crush on someone who was a contemporary dancer. As much as I was trying different ways to impress and connect with her, I was equally interested in capturing the form of movement on film and still images. Unfortunately, nothing between her and I evolved but what did was a body of work that are now these images and my Ballet series.

All of the photographs were taken in San Francisco although I would love to expand my work outside of this city. I’m constantly inspired by many cities I visit and in varies parts of nature that I find myself in.

I try not to put to many labels or titles with my work. My goal is to remain in a place of mystery in space. The ultimate goal is to just be vague enough so that the viewer can create their own story and connect with it on a much more personal level. To be a shepherd in that moment and guide people to open up to a space like that is my overall goal with all of my work.

Most of the models are professional ballet dancers but not all of them. The boy on the beach isn’t a professional ballet dancer and most people who do ballet will notice that, but this photograph is one of my favorite one. It’s my favorite because of the energy captured in that frame. The birds, the golden light, the water flying from his feet. That image feels so playful. It reminds me of Peter Pan.
