Photo Journal Monday: Anthony Thornton
After moving to San Francisco in late 2014 from the mountains of Colorado, I began to notice something that you'll most likely find in the cities of the world. Despite the close physical proximity people occupy in a space, there is an unmistakeable distance from others and their surroundings. I was struck by this and decided to photograph these moments. After naming the subsequent series, "Alone Together" I also started to think about more ways to interpret being "Alone Together." This opened my eyes to even more moments in the city where the feelings of separation and closeness occur simultaneously, or with just one person.
I think the beauty of this ongoing series is that the moment itself requires the photographer's or third person's perspective. We are constantly in moments of being "Alone Together" but it is difficult to capture. It's almost like trying to see the back of your own head — it's always there but it may take someone else to show you.
