Guardians of the Mountain

This selection of images reflects on the care and protection of natural forests. In the Argentine Patagonia, there is the Nahuel Huapi National Park where the Cerro Piltriquitrón is located, an area where the first settlers are found, who year after year fight against forest fires to survive.

They take care of the flora and fauna of the place that is devastated by the large and extensive fires, generated by man without mercy, thus burning miles and miles of hectares. This allows us to reflect on the care of our natural forests that are the lungs of the world.

In the middle of the high mountain of the Patagonian paradise, the community of Mapuche aborigines, like their ancestors, live connected with their reality, the love for their land, the flora and fauna, and without electricity or main water. They put their body and soul to put out forest fires caused due to carelessness, recklessness or laziness.

This project reflects on the advance of forest fires in the Argentine Patagonia, which at the same time are a reflection of a global reality. Every year thousands of native forests in the world are devoured by flames, product of the advance of globalization, the inaction of world leaders or tourists whose imprudence unleashes avoidable catastrophes.

The Mapuche indigenous community, like their ancestors, live there connected with nature, the land, the flora and fauna. They are the first defenders before the flames, they put their body and soul in unequal conditions, using rudimentary elements before the flames confronting temperatures of 60º Celsius, smoke, exhaustion, endless days of fighting in defense of the earth.
