About the Project: The one who is me and the one who is not me
In the heart Iran, I embarked on a transformative journey of self-exploration and empathy, delving into the intricate and multifaceted narratives of migration, gender, and identity. This odyssey tookthe form of a powerful performance art piece, captured through a compelling photo series—a visual testament to the universality of human experiences. For 45 minutes, I donned the Burqa, immersing myself in the struggles and suffering faced byAfghan women, whose lives are often defined by displacement and the intricate interplay of cultural and personal identities. This collaboration with Tahmina Salar bore witness to the collective resilience of marginalized individuals, transcending borders and languages to give voice to the silenced. Through my work, I aim to ignite dialogues, fostering a deeper understanding of the human condition. My performance embodies the fusion of personal identity with universal themes, a narrative thread connecting us all, regardless of our origins. The Burqa becomes a symbol, a vessel through which I navigate the shared emotions, dreams, and trials of those who migrate, confronting preconceptions, biases, and societal expectations.
