Kwame Acheampong

Images and Writing by Kwame Acheampong

About the Artist:

Kwame Acheampong is a Ghanaian artist based in Jamestown, Accra. Kwame captures and documents the life around him while infusing new life into the images. His art is an exercise in what can be achieved by working with as little as possible, filming and editing entirely on his iPhone. He is an excellent example that talent and ingenuity are not tied to available tools, but rather to the artist himself.

About the Project:

Inspired by his seaside town, Kwame highlights the heart and soul of his birthplace while adding a contemporary and playful aesthetic. He frequently frames people working, playing, and living on the shore, with objects and geological features only available in a coastal city like Accra. He is not afraid to experiment with his images, using different effects and colors to create eye-catching images. Although captured through a lens, Kwame's images resemble more of paintings than photographs. Kwame is one of many artists from Ghana's emerging art scene. He holds a degree in science from the prestigious University of Ghana. He is passionate about art and philosophy and wishes to pursue further education in art. While he has no intention of giving up photography, he is interested in learning other forms and mediums to incorporate into his future works.
