My shadow knows everything about me. My shadow knows where I go, what shortcuts I take on my way to school. My shadow knows where I like to go when I don’t feel like being found. My shadow knows that sometimes I purposely take the wrong route home, just so I can pass this boy’s apartment building, just so I can maybe catch a glimpse of him: an accidental, on-purpose run-in. My shadow knows when I’m lying, when I’m depressed, when I’m talking to myself because I feel lonely. My shadow knows that I walk to the beat of the song playing through my headphones to make me feel like I’m in a movie. My shadow knows when I feel like someone is behind me, when I feel like I have to break for cover, when I have to pretend I’m entering my own building when its really someone else's.

My shadow never breaks from me. My shadow never fails me.

You’ll never know me like that.
