Banksy Runs Into Trademarking Issues

Banksy, the anonymous England-based street artist, political activist and film director who has been around since the 1990s has recently come under some criticism from the EU court. The EU Court rules he can’t hold trademarks while his identity remains a mystery. A panel of three judges from the European Union’s Intellectual Property Office has ruled against Banksy in a two-year-long trademark dispute with a greeting card company seeking to use his iconic design of a protestor throwing a bouquet of flowers.

The artist responded in distinctly Banksyian fashion, launching a shop called Gross Domestic Product to shamelessly peddle his wares.Apparently, the idea was to demonstrate that he was using the trademarks on his work.

News of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's passing Friday brought upon an outpouring of tributes from Washington's political luminaries and admirers of her prolific career. Supporters of Ginsberg, a Supreme Court justice who became widely known as the “The Notorious RBG,” held rallies in various states as people are demanding that her replacement’s nomination be withheld until after the 2020 presidential election winner is inaugurated next year.

Let The Countdown Begin

For over 20 years, Metronome, which includes a 62-foot-wide, 15-digit electronic clock that faces Union Square in Manhattan, has been one of the city’s most prominent and confusing public art projects. The massive digital clock previously told the time in its own unique way, counting the hours, minutes and seconds (and fractions thereof) to and from midnight, but, as of recently, two artists, Gan Golan and Andrew Boyd, have taken over the display in an attempt to call attention to global warming and the Earth's impending doom On Saturday at 3:20 p.m, messages including ‘The Earth has a deadline’ began to appear on the display. Then ‘7:103:15:40:07’ appeared, representing the years, days, hours, minutes and seconds until that deadline.
