Interview by Akshit Bhardwaj

I think this project is very interesting and mysterious. Could you tell me more about your thoughts you had while working on this project?

"I’ve always been a fan of the dark and mysterious stuff. I believe that even dark themes can be beautiful. This project is a proof of that thought."

How did you come up with this project? What is your inspiration for this project?

"This project is inspired by Joel-Peter Witkin. I’ve always been a fan of his works. I think that his works has a strange but attractive aesthetic feeling. I wanted to create something that is likewise but easier for the viewers to accept. That’s my original intention for this project."

You have the beautiful darkroom photographs of this series. I am curious why every image has the differently organic borders?

"I’ve been through lots of struggles during the creation. At first they were just white borders, but I felt something were missing. Then, I went back and looked at Joel-Peter Witkin’s works again and found those scratches and stains. I thought why not try to add them to my images. After adding borders and scratches with my first photo, I felt the changes of it and liked that very much. But as each process was unique and came with a flash across my head, I couldn’t and would not want to repeat them. That’s why every image has a different border."

What is the significance of the hands in the photographs?

"I always like to observe people’s hands. I think that they can tell a person’s life or personalities silently. The hands in this project were paired with different items to show a different aspect of them. I want the viewers to imagine the different lifestyle of the owners while looking at these different hands."
