Bus Driver’s Best Friend
This series portrays an unlikely affinity that has developed between bus drivers and a small family of foxes on the outskirts of Berlin. Although the red fox ranks among the most successful animals in terms of adapting to city life (it’s estimated that over one thousand foxes live in Berlin), they go largely unnoticed by most of Berlin’s human residents due to a nocturnal lifestyle. And when they are seen, it’s usually only in fleeting glimpses. So when my next door neighbor, a night bus driver, told me about one end station where foxes will literally wait at the bus stop for buses to come by, I knew I had to go try to document it. Using an infrared camera and modified flash allowed me to take pictures with "invisible" light, keeping the night dark and ensuring minimal disturbance to the foxes, the bus drivers, and the neighborhood.
