Jos Jansen aims to visualize people’s state of mind in these times of confusion and transformation. Paris, from the series, Some Way Out of Here, explores a new and different way to represent the uncertainty of our era. Using a 3D LiDAR camera, Jos sought the limits of lens-based image-making. Such a camera, used in self-driving cars, emits invisible pulses of light which are reflected back and recorded in the form of three-dimensional, often mysterious and ambiguous, point clouds. Scouring the streets of Paris, Berlin, and Amsterdam, Jos captured people deeply lost in their thoughts, questions, and dreams.

Based in the Netherlands, Jos Jansen is a visual artist whose works includes photography, film, writing, and more. He uses his background in psychology to probe the boundaries between humanity, nature, science, technology, and the unknown. His work melds the personal with the universal; the subjective with the objective.
