Every day, after third period, Jessica raced down the hallways and out the school’s back door, to the parking lot, to come face to face with her bike.
This morning, she had left her iced americano in the cup holder that she bedazzled herself. The ice was long gone, but still, Jessica ventured a sip before she unlocked her ride. Bitter.
Once mounted, she popped in headphones and clipped on her helmet. And with a smile, she kicked off the pavement and rode towards the exit.
Her homework was complete, and she didn’t have any friends with a free fourth period, so Jessica spent this time alone. And frankly, she liked it that way.
